Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Installer III to support a Verizon Wireless Central Office decommissioning project in New Jersey. This position will focus on the removal and decommissioning of Lucent 5ESS and Nortel DMS switching equipment , including associated superstructure, down to the concrete floor.

This is a non-live DC power environment , making prior DC power experience a plus but not required. The ideal candidate is reliable, hardworking, quality-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working around heavy telecom equipment.

Candidates who are open to future travel opportunities are highly preferred, although local candidates who prefer to remain in New Jersey will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Decommission, dismantle, and remove Lucent 5ESS and Nortel DMS switching equipment and associated superstructure.
• Remove telecom equipment, racks, cabling, and related infrastructure down to the concrete floor.
• Install, assemble, mount, and align Central Office and Data Center equipment as required.
• Install, terminate, and test copper, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling.
• Mount and label telecom equipment, relay racks, terminal blocks, and interconnect panels.
• Perform basic DC power work, including fuse panels, power feeders, and power leads.
• Read and interpret job specifications, wiring diagrams, floor plans, and installation drawings.
• Perform cable verification, cable mining, and cable removal activities.
• Conduct installation testing, including power verification, continuity, Cat5/Cat6, fiber loss, and system testing.
• Lead and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 installers.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Engineering to ensure work is completed safely and correctly.
• Maintain high-quality workmanship and ensure all work meets customer and project standards.

Required Qualifications

• 7–10 years of Central Office, Data Center, MTSO, or telecommunications installation experience.
• 4–6 years of experience as a Level 2 Installer or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with telecom equipment installation, removal, or decommissioning.
• Strong understanding of telecom installation practices and basic electrical theory.
• DC power experience is a plus .
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and installation materials.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation documentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer systems.
• Reliable transportation.
• Clean driving record.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders and work under raised floors.
• Ability to cut, drill, and work with metal.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Comfortable working around heavy telecommunications equipment.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical installation/removal work for extended periods.
• Willingness to work overtime and occasional night shifts when project requirements dictate.
• Travel may be required for future projects, with opportunities potentially involving significant travel.

Tools & Equipment

Candidates should provide their own basic hand tools , including:

• Wrenches
• Screwdrivers
• Other standard hand tools used for telecom installation

Power tools will be provided by CBM.

Because the project involves heavy equipment and decommissioning activities, work boots are required/recommended for the job.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal Installer III will have extensive hands-on telecommunications experience and be comfortable working independently on Central Office equipment. Experience with Lucent 5ESS, Nortel DMS, telecom decommissioning, cable removal, and DC power is highly desirable.
